It looked like Vincent Kompany said goodbye to his injury problems for good after playing more than a dozen matches in a row for club and country, but the Manchester City captain is hurt once again.

That’s according to James Ducker of the Telegraph, who reports that Kompany has picked up a calf injury while in international duty with Belgium and “is a serious doubt” for Saturday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

Ducker says that Kompany has missed training for the past two days after feeling some tightness in his calf before Belgium’s World Cup Qualifier against Greece last Sunday. If the calf is only tight and not strained, this is good news and Kompany may be ready for the Champions League opener against Feyenoord, but it’s looking increasingly likely that Vinny will miss the Liverpool game.

If he’s indeed having to pick a team without Kompany on Saturday, Pep Guardiola will most likely revert to a back four with John Stones alongside Nicolas Otamendi, and that’s not a very encouraging center-back partnership to face a Liverpool attack with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho.

Oh dear.
