Happy Spursday, Spursland!

We are now mere days from the return of club football and the narrative-fest that will be Spurs v Bournemouth. Will the Wembley curse that has plagued our league campaign thusfar finally be broken? Will JD Trouble celebrate when he inevitably scores against us? Will Adam Smith and Charlie Daniels prove just how foolish we were to release both of them (OK, I’m reaching a little bit now). In any case, you can be dead certain that this tie is going to be a great satisfying interesting game of football.

Theme of the Day below and then beyond that the links.

Links

Search engine enthusiast Danny Rose and beautiful glass unicorn Erik Lamela are ALIIIIIVE!

In other favorable injury-related news for Spurs, Real Madrid #1 Keylor Navas has picked up a knock less than a week before our visit to the Bernabeu. Stop trying to make me believe, forces of the universe!

Have you tried to go along to Wembley to watch Spurs play this season but run into bother booking your seats? Well, this won’t be any consolation to you now, but apparently our ticketing operation has been all sorted out after initial teething troubles. Roll on the record attendances!

Elsewhere in football...

If your shoulder slipped out of its socket in the middle of a football game, would you perhaps consider requesting to be subbed off? Not if you’re Norway’s extremely Vikingish young defender Kristoffer Ajer, who completed a full 90 minutes in his side’s 3-1 victory over Germany last night despite picking up that very injury.

The Guardian has run a deeply raw and inspiring interview with former Liverpool and Wigan stopper Chris Kirkland today about his years-long battle with depression and the wider problem in the game of players not talking until it’s too late. If you’re only going to read one of the links this morning, make it this one.

And finally...

Everybody- everybody- hates penalty shootouts. So imagine winning one only to be forced to undergo the whole process a week later due to a mistake on the referee’s part, and then losing the second time out- a nightmare scenario endured this week by third-division Dutch side FC Lisse. Apparently the newly-introduced ABBA rules are to blame- I hear these regulations also clarify The Name of the Game and specify that the Winner Takes It All (do not @ me).
