WATCH: Jan Vertonghen really REALLY wants to score for Tottenham

It’s time to #GetJanAGoal.

Jan Vertonghen hasn’t scored a goal for Tottenham Hotspur since January 17, 2015, a deflected blast in a 2-1 win over Sunderland. He’s been fantastic for Spurs defensively all season, and has arguably been Tottenham’s best and most consistent defender all season. His bonafides are without question. But what he really wants is to score again.

As a center back he’s been encouraged to get forward when appropriate, and he’s done that, sometimes making long, mazy runs into the opposition third. You can usually find him parked at the back post on corner kicks. Heck, he’s even started a couple of games at left back now. But despite a number of good looks, that goal just won’t come.

It got even worse for Jan today in the second half. Spurs’ fourth goal came off of a Spurs free kick that found a wide-open Jan at the back post. But his powerful shot was blocked, and to add insult to injury, the rebound fell to Harry Kane who cooly slotted home for his second of the game.

Look at Jan’s reaction to Kane scoring. He’s in the background.

This kills me. Look at him. He’s SO MAD and can’t BELIEVE that shot didn’t go in. He wants that goal SO BADLY and he deserves it!

I say we make this happen. This is your time, Mauricio Pochettino! Tell him to get forward! Encourage Harry Winks to feed him more often! Heck, move him up to striker for a spell! He needs it. He deserves it. We need to see the Super Jan celebration this season. Let’s #GetJanAGoal!
