Deschamps: Lloris out with injury

It’s not a huge surprise, but still not great.

Tottenham Hotspur are no doubt still basking in the glory of the 3-1 victory over European Champions, Real Madrid, earning a place in the knockout round at the same time. It wasn’t all great, though. Toby Alderweireld left the match with an apparent hamstring injury and our captain, Hugo Lloris, was upended by Sergio Ramos in the second half of the match. While he stayed in the match, it appeared that he was in a bit of pain after the collision.

Today, France National Team manager Didier Deschamps held a press conference ahead of the international break and provided us an update on Hugo. Dan Kilpatrick confirmed the injury news.

We were all hopeful that Hugo shrugged off whatever was ailing him after he did an aerial somersault thanks to Ramos, but it appears that he’ll need a little time off. The good news is that this is coming at probably the best time in this gauntlet of matches. While no team can be overlooked, it’s better to have this happen with Crystal Palace on Sunday instead of, say, Manchester City. Michel Vorm is more than capable of slotting in for a match and we’ll hope to see our captain back in net for the Arsenal match after the international break.
