Team news: Hugo Lloris and Toby Alderweireld both out for Crystal Palace

On Wednesday night, Spurs defeated the two-time defending European Champions. It was a tremendous result that means Tottenham are already qualified for the next round, but there were two casualties from the victory.

Toby Alderweireld and Hugo Lloris both picked up injuries during the match. Alderweireld was forced off in the first half, while Hugo stayed on and saw-out the rest of the game with Michel Vorm warming up on the sidelines just in case.

Now, both of these key members of Spurs’ squad will be unavailable when Crystal Palace come to Wembley on Sunday.

Thankfully both injuries are strains and not tears. Toby told journalists at Wembley that he would be out for a few weeks. Hugo’s groin strain could have him out for a similar period of time. We’ll know more after they both have scans on their injuries today.

The silver lining here is that the timing of these injuries isn’t bad at all. After the Palace game there is an international break, and Spurs have just come out of one of the most brutal runs of matches that they will have all season. Vorm, and some combination of defenders, should be fine against Palace.

The North London Derby is on November 18th, which is 15 days from now. Both injured players will be racing to return to fitness before that massive fixture.

The other team news is that Victor Wanyama and Erik Lamela remain unavailable.

Lamela returning after the international break would be wonderful, but his long-awaited return is going to have to be seen to be believed.

Wanyama’s injury still sounds like a long-term thing. Don’t be surprised if we don’t see Vic until the new year.

Mauricio Pochettino also confirmed that Harry Kane is feeling better, and that his hamstring is no longer an issue. So that’s good news! Maybe he’ll get the start in goal with Hugo unavailable.
