Foyth: I chose Tottenham Hotspur because of Pochettino

He’s not a Spurs player yet, but he almost certainly will be, and Tottenham’s manager is the reason why.

Argentina U20 center back Juan Foyth hasn’t yet finalized his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, but that announcement is looking more and more likely as time ticks by. It’s well-enough along that Foyth has broken his silence about the transfer telling local La Plata newspaper El Dia that he’s joined Spurs because of Mauricio Pochettino’s record of developing youth talent.

"It's a club that bets on youth and I think I'll have chances to play. I also spoke with Mauricio Pochettino and I really liked what he said to me. It was what helped me to decide that Tottenham was the right place to continue my career.

"[Pochettino] told me to go, train, and that I was going to play. He also told me what the club was like, what idea of work he had."

The transfer of Foyth to Tottenham has had its ups and downs. Spurs thought they had him earlier in the summer only for PSG to swoop in and GAZUMP him by outbidding him. Foyth, however, reportedly wasn’t happy with his prospects for breaking through in Paris and pushed for a move to Spurs.

El Dia says that Foyth is currently en route and should be arriving in London to finalize the transfer sometime today. Spurs fans shouldn’t expect Foyth to have a major impact on the first team, but it appears that Pochettino views him as a player who could be an important part of Tottenham’s back line in future years.
