Tottenham Hotspur sign 19-year old defender Juan Foyth

Spurs just made Juan more signing official!

Tottenham’s third signing of the summer, Juan Foyth.

It was one of the worst kept secrets the past couple of weeks, but now it’s official: Tottenham Hotspur have made nineteen year old Argentinian center back Juan Foyth their third signing of the summer. Foyth signed a five year contract that will keep him at the club until 2022.

Foyth’s transfer had its bumps along the way. Spurs were the front runners to sign him over a month ago but nearly lost his signature after PSG swooped in at the last minute and offered his home club, Estudiantes, more money. Foyth, however, was not happy with his path to the first team in Paris and opted to reject PSG and sign with Pochettino, whom he said believes in youth.

The exact amount of the transfer fee was not disclosed, but was though to be between £7m-10m. That’s a lot for a youth defender, but Pochettino clearly thinks that he has the potential to turn into a very good option in Spurs’ back line in upcoming seasons. With the departure of Kevin Wimmer to Stoke and the loan of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Foyth becomes Spurs’ fourth/fifth CB behind Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertognehn, Davinson Sanchez, and Eric Dier. Foyth probably won’t feature much in Spurs’ first team this season, but we may see him play in cup matches, or possibly in the PL2 as he adjusts to life in England.

We welcome him to Tottenham Hotspur! May he become Juan of Spurs’ best defenders!
