Tottenham still lead the race for Ross Barkley

But there’s now a new dark horse... and it’s Arsenal.

No, the Ross Barkley to Tottenham Hotspur rumors haven’t gone away, and they don’t seem to be showing any signs of cooling down. The latest rumors still have Barkley leaving Everton before the close of the transfer window, and according to reports, Spurs want him and he wants Spurs.

These rumors don’t seem to be showing any indications of letting up anytime soon. With Chelsea actually seeming to show real interest, that’s driving the price back up to the extent that many observers suggest that Barkley could end up costing between £30-40m. And that’s in the last year of his contract, with a busted hamstring.

However, there is another club that potentially could come in and challenge for the injured midfielder’s services: Arsenal.

I’m on record for not especially wanting Barkley, and ESPECIALLY not for the inflated price that comes out of a bidding war. However, if Spurs decide not to sign Ross Barkley, I’m not sure which is funnier: watching Chelsea overpay for him, or seeing him eventually land at Arsenal.
