You’ve got to think that Harry Kane’s mantelpiece is already getting overly crowded. Now he’s got to somehow make room for another award. Tottenham Hotspur announced today that Kane was named the England Men’s Player of the Year for 2017.

The award is for Kane’s international performances in 2017 and not for his domestic achievements, which as we all know are also impressive. Kane scored seven goals in six England fixtures in 2017, helping the Three Lions cruise to qualification for this summer’s World Cup in Russia. Kane also pulled on the armband four times for England, something that he has said in past interviews was one of the proudest moments in his career thus far.
Kane was quick to praise Three Lions fans for their support for England as they progressed through the final qualification round this year.
“To play your part in reaching the finals of a World Cup is every young footballer’s dream and I’d like to thank all of my international teammates for the part they played in that journey.
”However, I’d especially like to thank the Three Lions’ fans for their fantastic support both at Wembley and across Europe. Now here’s to an exciting summer in Russia.”
Kane is one of at least four Tottenham Hotspur players that are likely to feature for the Three Lions in this summer’s competition, a group that includes Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, and possibly even Harry Winks.
England’s next match is a friendly against the Netherlands on March 23, one of a few warm-up games before the World Cup. Their first group stage World Cup game is against Tunisia on June 18.
