Everton Ladies started their Continental Cup off right, with a 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers Belles.

Striker Chloe Kelly set the tone early with a goal in the sixth minute of the game. Sound familiar? The Blue Girls got on the score sheet only five minutes in during their last game against Manchester City.

Midfielder Angharad James provided commentary on Twitter and confirmed that this was all part of the game plan:

"We wanted the early goal. It helps settle the team down. Chloe makes those clever runs and she's a composed finisher. Great start."

An own goal off of a Belles defender during an Everton corner made the score 2-0.

James said:

"Important goal after Rovers had a few chances. We have been working on set pieces in training so it's good to see that work pay off."

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, up against her old team, had several shots on goal but did not end up scoring.

One major change in the lineup from the previous three games was that Kirstie Levell got the start in goal instead of Lizzie Durack, who had done well in her appearances so far.

Levell had a spectacular save in the 72nd minute, and forward Mollie Green said of the goalkeeper:

"She has deserved a start because she's been really good in training all season."

The Blues continued to have their chances on goal, with a few close ones from Simone Magill.

Near the end of the game, Magill drew a foul outside the box, which set up a free kick that ended in a goal for substitute Marthe Munsterman, making it 3-0.

Mollie Green said of the win:

"That will give us all a lift. We've been unlucky in recent games so it's nice to get our first win under our belts. Onwards & upwards!"

Everton have proved that they belong in the top flight of women’s football. They will have plenty of time to practice before their next game against Arsenal Women on October 29th and continue their winning ways.
