Not much cheer for the youngsters either

The Everton senior side underwent another chastening weekend, with most of the on-loan players not getting much time or joy either.

Of the players to taste victories this weekend, defender Matthew Pennington played the whole game for Leeds United as they beat Bristol City 3-0 to hold on to fourth place in the Championship. Meanwhile, Kieran Dowell came off the bench midway through the second half as Nottingham Forest eked out a 2-0 win over Burton Albion.

Midfielder Joe Williams had a quiet game as Barnsley lost again, this time 1-0 at home to Hull City, with the Tykes now slipping down closer to the relegation zone.

In League Two, Conor Grant played in the middle as Crewe Alexandra lost 2-0 at home to Accrington Stanley.

Henry Onyekuru played the whole game but saw his scoring form dip as Anderlecht were beaten at home by Genk 1-0. The defending League champions are now in fifth place, twelve points behind Jupiler League leaders Club Brugge.

Elsewhere, there wasn’t much game time for the rest. Sunderland continue to struggle in the Championship, and threw away a 3-1 lead to draw against Brentford with Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway both rested.

Liam Walsh (Birmingham 0-2 at Milwall), Callum Connolly (Ipswich 0-1 Norwich City) and Antonee Robinson (Botlon Wanderers 1-1 Queens Park Rangers) were all unused substitutes this weekend.
