Henry Onyekuru could return to Everton in January

Henry Onyekuru has again talked up the possibility of cutting short his loan at Anderlecht and returning to Everton in January.

Onyekuru joined the Toffees from KAS Eupen in the summer but was immediately loaned out to Anderlecht for the season as he didn’t fulfil the criteria for a UK work permit.

The 20-year-old has impressed in an Anderlecht shirt so far and with Everton struggling for firepower it was suggested Onyekuru could return to the club early.

Reports earlier this month claimed Everton would try and implement a “special talent” clause in order to secure Onyekuru’s work permit.

However, that is far from certain - as RBM writer Sean Lunt revealed when he crunched the numbers.

Onyekuru is clearly interested in a possible winter move back to Goodison though and held talks with the Toffees a few weeks ago.

Now, in an interview with the Belgian media, the Nigeria striker hinted he would move if the opportunity presented itself but was keen to try and avoid offending his current club.

Onyekuru said:

“I follow the path that is being drawn up for me. Wherever I go after New Year, I do not know either.

“Whether Everton has a contractual option to get me in the winter? Everything is possible. I'm their property, they decide.

“I have never said that I'm sure I'll leave Anderlecht.

“The most important thing is here and now. I'm happy and everything is going well.

“What's happening in winter, we'll see.”
