From youth performances to injury status, former manager had no clue

We love listening to David Unsworth speak to the media. His passion for Everton and everything around the Club makes us all very happy. In addition, it also tells us that during the last days of the ill-fated tenure of Ronald Koeman at the Club, the Dutchman simply had no idea what was going on.

In a recent press conference, Koeman had insisted that Yannick Bolasie and Seamus Coleman would likely be back in action next month.

Today Unsworth clarified that was not true, and that the pair were further away than we had heard. He did add that Ross Barkley was closer to returning however.

“We hope Ross is three or four weeks away from being in the squad.

“The long term injuries are as they were, but Ross is closer to coming back.

“They are all still working really hard in the gym. But with Yannick Bolasie and Seamus Coleman, you are talking months not weeks.”

Morgan Scheniderlin was taken ill and missed the midweek game at Chelsea, but he should be good to go as well.

"Morgan trained this morning (Friday), he is fine. He didn’t feel very well for a couple of days but is fine now and will train as well tomorrow and be available for Sunday.

“Everyone else is fine and the long-term injuries are progressing nicely and working really hard in the gym.”

Another example of Koeman not knowing what was going on around Finch Farm was demonstrated earlier this week when we heard that he was barely speaking to Unsworth and knew very little about the Under-23s.

Rhino was full of praise for midweek debutant Beni Baningime, but apparently Koeman had no clue that he had been consistently turning in good performances for the youngsters.

"Beni Baningime is a top young player. He's been outstanding over a period of probably eighteen months for me in the Under-23s. I have no hesitation at all in playing young players, that’s what this club has always done, when they are ready.

"I believed he was ready and he showed that with an outstanding performance."

It’s really interesting that now Koeman has gone we’re discovering more about what has been going on behind the scenes.
