After Everton’s failure to land a replacement for Romelu Lukaku over the summer it’s no surprise that rumours have already begun over possible January signings.

The Toffees’ poor start to the season has only highlighted what an error it was to fail to replace their star 20-goal-a-season frontman.

As a result we are already counting down the days until the window opens again and the club can begin to rectify that mistake.

A host of names have already been linked but one that keeps popping up is Atletico Madrid’s Kevin Gameiro.

Only last week there were reports linking Everton with an initial loan move for the 30-year-old with a view to a permanent £20m move in the summer.

With Diego Costa available to play for Atletico from January is makes sense for the club to offload another striker to make room for the former Chelsea man.

Whether Gameiro wants to move to Goodison Park remains to be seen, but Spanish paper AS, via Sport Witness, claims Everton are “very interested” in a deal.

Everton desperately need a striker so they can’t afford to be too picky when January comes around.

Sadly for the Toffees and Ronald Koeman there are at least 19 more games to play between now and the end of the year, meaning he has to make do with what he has got for now.
