Unsworth: We’ll take anything we can at the moment

Everton clawed back twice away at Crystal Palace to pick up a point against the bottom team in the Premier League, in the process dropping to 16th themselves. A poor first half saw the Blues twice go behind while the hosts dominated and could have been out of sight by the break.

After the game, caretaker manager David Unsworth spoke to the media about the game, starting with the weak penalty call that allowed Everton to draw level after falling behind in the first minute. He was asked if he was worried about the act of Oumar Niasse going down was reviewed by the ‘diving panel’.

“I’ll have to look at it again. I haven’t seen it again. It was a long way away. There looked like there was contact there from where I was standing.

“The one thing I’ll tell you about Oumar is he will always take on any opportunity. If he got clipped or pushed….if it was a soft penalty it was a soft penalty.”

Both Everton’s equalizers carried a touch of luck about them, with the second coming from a horrendous error by hosts goalie Julian Speroni.

“We’ll take anything we can at the moment. You have got to finish them, put them away.

“It was a tough game and a hard-fought point.”

The Blues looked much better in the second half as the tie become more closely contested, and Unsworth reassured the fans that the players were working hard despite not looking it in the first half.

"I can tell the Everton fans the players are giving me everything. I see the improvements. It was a hard-earned point that I think we deserved."

On the change to bring on Tom Davies who sparked the midfield after Morgan Schneiderlin’s lackadaisical performance.

"We were forced to bring on Tom Davies at half-time as Schneiderlin needed an injection on his toe before the game.”
