Roo grateful on behalf of all of us Blues

What a day Wayne Rooney had for Everton today. Scored an incredible hattrick in his return to the starting eleven, with the third of the lot being one of the best seen at Goodison Park in decades. As captain he led from the forefront, charging all over the pitch and being the center of the action throughout.

After the game, he spoke to the BT Sport cameras, and he could have taken some time to talk about this first hattrick in the royal blue shirt, or even the wondergoal that sealed the 4-0 win over the manager that gave him his first break, David Moyes.

Instead, the legend that he is and an Everton fan first and foremost, he thanked David Unsworth. We’ve all been heart-broken to see that Unsy was simply not cut out to be the manager of the senior side yet. As much as we willed that it would happen, he has been shown not ready for the role, and our faces looked much like his when Southampton tore us to shreds just days ago.

But, we remain eternally grateful to this legendary servant of the club who stepped in to live his dream (and ours too!) to manage Everton, an honour that very, very few of us Blues will ever have. We are thrilled that he has chosen to go back to his previous role of managing the Under-23s to great success, and for that we are grateful as well.

Thank you for your selfless, unflinching service to the club Unsy.
