David Unsworth has given some good news regarding the fitness of Michael Keane and Cuco Martina ahead of Sunday’s game against Watford.

Keane is in contention to return after missing Everton’s last two matches in order to undergo treatment in hospital for an infection in a foot injury.

The former Burnley man resumed training on Thursday and will be assessed again on Friday to decide whether he will be fit to feature at Goodison Park.

Unsworth also gave some good news regarding the fitness of Martina, who had to be carried off on a stretcher wearing a neck brace after landing awkwardly during the first half at the Groupama Stadium

Unsworth said:

“He was a little dizzy, concussed. He’s fine. He will be out for a couple of weeks as a precaution, but he was in great hands last night. We thank the doctors and medics.”

Unsworth also confirmed that Wayne Rooney, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines will return to the squad after being rested for the Lyon game.

Rhino stressed the important role the senior players have as the team tries to claw itself out of the depressing rut they find themselves in.

“Senior players are always important. We've got a few young players so their importance to them is vital.

You always need your senior players who you can rely on and trust.”
