Everton at Newcastle United, vs Swansea City - Writer Prediction League

Where did all this optimism come from?!

For the first time since the season began, there is a true sense of optimism surrounding Everton Football Club.

Sunday’s draw has even further enhanced the mood among supporters, even if the performance itself against Liverpool was ugly. Now, with two winnable matches against Newcastle and Swansea City on the horizon, there’s reason for Toffees to start looking up the table, rather than down it.

Our predictions certainly forecast a move in the right direction for Everton, but before we take a look at those, let’s review our picks from the Merseyside Derby.

Liverpool Predictions

Writer First Scorer Everton MOTM Winner Score Points
Writer First Scorer Everton MOTM Winner Score Points
Adam Salah Kenny Liverpool 2-1 2
Brian F. Mane Gueye Liverpool 3-0 0
Brian L. Mane Calvert-Lewin Draw 3-3 2
Callum Mane Calvert-Lewin Liverpool 2-0 0
Calvin Salah Pickford Liverpool 5-1 1
Chris Firmino Pickford Liverpool 4-1 0
Matt Coutinho Sigurdsson Liverpool 3-1 0
Mike Mane Pickford Liverpool 3-0 0
Sean Salah Pickford Liverpool 3-1 1
Tom Sigurdsson Pickford Everton 1-0 0
Tyler Sigurdsson Gueye Draw 1-1 2
Zach Salah Calvert-Lewin Liverpool 4-1 1

Brian L. and Tyler were rewarded for the optimism, each earning two points for predicting a draw at Anfield. Tyler got another two points for getting the score right as well.

Four writers correctly guessed that Mohamed Salah would open the scoring, and I was the only person to correctly select Jonjoe Kenny as Everton’s man of the match.

These results didn’t change much at the top of the prediction league table.

Two points helped push me into fourth place, ahead of the “best of the rest” category. Tyler’s big week pulled him out of last place, while Calvin picked up a point on Mike and Brian F.

This week brings two matches for Everton — a trip to Newcastle on Wednesday, and a match at Goodison Park against Swansea City on Monday. Normally, double matchweeks give our writers a chance to make up some ground, but our predictions were all so similarly optimistic that there’s little room for movement!

That’s right, not a single writer predicted Everton would lose either game this week, with only Brian F. even predicting a single point dropped. Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were all popular choices for first goalscorer and Everton MOTM across both matches.
