Tom Davies loves Everton and doesn’t care who knows it

Fans love Tom Davies.

Tom Davies loves Everton.

It’s a match made in heaven, really. The Liverpool-born midfielder (wingback?) has enjoyed such a meteoric rise to the forefront of Ronald Koeman’s squad that the comparisons to Wayne Rooney and Ross Barkley - if not in position or performance, then in trajectory - are not totally out of place.

Davies has enjoyed a fantastic preseason run-out no matter what position he’s been asked to play. A marauding wing back in the Europa League? Check. Playmaking midfielder against Sevilla? Check.

The youngster recently spoke to EvertonTV regarding his role in the squad.

“It can’t do me any harm if I can play in different positions. Playing wing-back was different to playing in midfield, it was tough in midweek and it was another test being back in the middle today. Wherever I’m asked to play, I’m happy to do the job.

I enjoy playing in midfield mainly but, of course, I’m happy to play at full-back if I’m asked - it’s just a privilege to be on the pitch playing for Everton. Anywhere the manager wants me to play, I’ll do it.”

Swoon. It’s just a privilege to be on the pitch playing for Everton. Where have we not heard that before? Hmm.

Oh yeah.

As Davies continues his ascension, it’s worth noting that Tom is popular for all the reasons that Ross Barkley could have been. Deeply loyal, teachable, and drama-free - that’s the name of Tom Davies’ game, and in a very short time he’s taken over the mantle of Goodison Park’s favorite son.

Ross, this could be us, but you playin’.
