Everton’s Under-23 showed a lot of promise last season, and despite losing a half dozen players or so to loans this season, the incoming players have meshed in quite well. With David Unsworth leading the way, the Under-23s are rounding into form as they look to defend their Premier League 2 title.

After beating Chelsea last time around, they beat Tottenham Hotspur youngsters 4-1 today at Goodison Park, with a brace from Oumar Niasse leading the way.

Unsworth named some seniors in his squad, with Joel Robles, Ademola Lookman and Oumar Niasse starting the game. And within minutes the home side were ahead, with Niasse heading home from a Jonjoe Kenny cross.

The remainder of the half went back and forth as the two teams traded some chances, but the game kicked up a level in the second half. Just after the break, Spurs captain Joe Pritchard had a deflected shot go past Joel to tie the game.

Then began a spell of pressure that saw the young Toffees put the game beyond their opponents. First Ademola Lookman arrowed in a fantastic shot into the far corner on the hour mark.

Minutes later, substitute David Henen set up Niasse for his brace.

And before Spurs could even react, Niasse paid his strike partner back for the previous favour, sliding Henen in to score the team’s fourth goal.
