There were a number of Toffees out on loan in action during the midweek, none more high profile than Henry Onyekuru featuring for Anderlecht away at Bayern Munich as the Champions League group stages got underway.

The forward came on as a substitute on the hour mark, but failed to make an impression with the Belgians who had been reduced to ten men following an 11th minute red card, eventually losing 3-0.

This has not been a good week for Everton defenders - those playing for the club and others elsewhere as well. Things were even worse for Tyias Browning, whose poor back pass very late in the game allowed Nottingham Forest to get all three points at Sunderland. Brendan Galloway did not feature for the Black Cats while Kieran Dowell was substituted off after 69 minutes following a quiet day.

Antonee Robinson started for Bolton and had a good game at left wing back in a 5-man backline for Bolton Wanderers, but lost 1-0 at home to Sheffield United.

Matthew Pennington has returned to training but didn’t play for Leeds in a 2-0 win over Birmingham City, for whom Liam Walsh came on as a late substitute with ten minutes to play.

Callum Connolly’s Ipswich Town and Joe Williams’ Barnsley sides respectively did not have any midweek games. In League Two Conor Grant is still out with a head injury sustained last week, with his Crewe team losing at home to Cambridge United.
