Everton comfortably beat Sunderland 3-0 earlier today in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup to book their spot in the last sixteen of the competition, where they will take on defending Premier League champions Chelsea.

Young striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was a handful throughout the game, giving his markers fits and could have easily had a hat-trick. The Under-20 World Cup winner made the breakthrough just before halftime, working the ball loose through a crowd before slotting home.

He bagged his second with an excellent near post finish soon after the break to pretty much settle the game, and then hit the post with a superb diving header. Calvert-Lewin came off midway through the second stanza to a rousing round of applause from the Goodison Park crowd, with Oumar Niasse coming on.

Niasse did not take long to open his account, feeding off the immense energy and adulation that he received from the crowd. He controlled well from a lovely lofted ball in by Tom Davies, and then prodded home just inside the far post.

There were more chances to score, but with the game pretty much over, this was more an exercise in running down the clock than anything after that.
