England have announced their 21-man squad for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup that will be held in India from the 6th-28th of October. Everton have one representative in the traveling party, new signing Lewis Gibson who joined the Blues this summer.

The youngsters travel to Mumbai for a training camp before the tournament starts in Kolkata next week. England play their first game against Chile on Sunday 8th October, before taking on Mexico on Wednesday 11th October and finishing the group stage with a game against Iraq on Saturday 14th October.

Tom Davies, currently in the Toffees senior squad, captained the Young Lions World Cup side last time around in Chile 2015. Despite beating the hosts Chile, England went out in the group stages. Jordan Pickford played in the 2011 competition, backstopping the Young Lions in Mexico as the team reached the quarter finals stage.

Gibson has 16 international youth team caps already, with the defender having scored two goals too. He has featured in six games for the Under-23s, and has quickly established himself as a mainstay in defence for David Unsworth’s side.

Here’s wishing Gibson and his teammates all the very best in the tournament, and hoping that the youngster can emulate the five Evertonians in the England youth side that won the Under-20 World Cup earlier this summer.
