The 2017/2018 Premier League campaign has been a tumultuous one so far for Everton and it’s supporters, but Tuesday morning brought with it news that will bring a smile to even the most downtrodden of fans.

Yannick Bolasie is back on the pitch!

No, he isn’t ready to step into a match.

In fact, he hasn’t even started training with the first team and is still working individually to repair and rebuild his knee.

However, Tuesday’s developments DO warrant excitement.

Why?

Well in recovery from any knee injury, the large part of rehabilitation is spent rebuilding the muscles surrounding the knee in order to lower the chances for another injury. (This is where professionals have a HUGE advantage over a pub league player recovering from the same injury).

Using ‘straight line’ exercises, players imitate on field actions and motions to include exaggerating their stride to ensure they don’t favor their good leg when they DO start to sprint and cause other problems.

This part of the rehab is by far the longest part of the recovery process.

However, it appears as though Bolasie has moved beyond that point in his recovery.

Being allowed onto grass means he is now allowed to plant on his leg and change direction while having his foot embedded into the ground.

AKA how he got hurt.

He isn’t allowed to apply pressure quite yet as his meniscus and ligaments readjust to natural motion, which is why he stays upright in his cuts.

There has been a belief that Bolasie will be back in training in a few weeks, and his performance on this clip is evidence that he is well on his way to returning to the side.

Of course, as Everton struggle to inject pace into the side the Congolese winger will be a sight for the sore eyes of Everton fans (and Gylfi Sigurdsson).

With Seamus Coleman on a similar trajectory to returning to play, Oumar Niasse isn’t the only reason for Everton fans to be in a good mood!
