Spanish forward Sandro Ramirez arrived at Finch Farm this summer to much fanfare. Generally regarded as one of his country’s most promising attackers, he arrived on the cheap due to negotiating failures by his former club Malaga.

Sandro impressed early in his preseason, a run out that included a coolly taken goal against Sevilla. Unfortunately, Ramirez picked up a heel injury in the league opener against Stoke. He returned against Chelsea, but was clearly not fully fit and had to be replaced by Dominic Calvert-Lewin shortly after the first half.

Now, though? Sandro’s fit and champing at the bit.

Unlike a multitude of his teammates, Sandro has been working at USM Finch Farm during the hiatus in domestic action. And he has used the time to ensure he is in prime condition for the meeting with Maurico Pochettino’s Spurs.

“I wanted to use these two weeks to prepare and keep improving ahead of the Tottenham game.”

“I have worked hard to prepare for the Spurs game which for us, in front of our fans, will be massive. I feel very positive about the team going into this match.

“The week before the Chelsea game I was not really resting, because I was training and preparing myself.

“I had two weeks of problems with my heel but I was looking forward to playing again when we went to Chelsea. Now I feel one hundred per cent and I want to be ready for the Spurs game.”

Given Everton’s inability to sign another striker on deadline day, the contributions of Sandro - at least until January - are going to be one of the most crucial aspects of the Blues’ season.

Ramirez needs to get off the mark, and quickly. Thankfully, everything about his career to date shows he should be able to do just that.
