17/18 Premier League Preview | Manchester City (A)
September 7, 2017 Gary Fulcher

By Gary Fulcher.

The first international break of the season is behind us and we can re-focus on the only type of football that really matters – club football – when Liverpool travel to the Etihad/City of Manchester Stadium for Saturday’s lunch-time kick off; 12.30pm UK time.

It’s fair to say the main talking points will be whether or not the ‘fit’ again Phillipe Coutinho and new signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will both make the squad, with the former playing his first competitive football of the new season for Brazil, despite suffering from a ‘back injury’ serious enough to make him unavailable for Liverpool throughout the whole of August. This is one squad announcement I’ll be keeping a keen eye out for.

Manchester City should offer a tougher test than the Reds’ last outing against the Gunners, with Liverpool and City unbeaten in the league from three matches played, with a record of two wins and one draw for both sides. (Note: the league table will not be displayed in this preview until after match week ten; to prevent Daniel from spontaneously combusting)

City are one of the favourites to land the Premier League title this season based on many factors including, but not limited to, the past reputation of Pep Guardiola and the money he has spent since his appointment, with over £150m splurged on a goalkeeper and a trio of full-backs during the summer transfer window alone.
