Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp serves up some surprise injury news on Sadio Mane

Mane was expected to be out until mid-November with a hamstring problem picked up on international duty with Senegal last month, but he is back in Klopp’s thinking after a return to first team training in recent days.

“Sadio training yesterday, this first time with the team and he looked really, really good, so now we will have to see what we do with that,” declared Klopp.

“It looks like he is ready for at least 20-25 minutes, but we have to see how his body reacts to the session. It was intense for him as it was his first football in a few weeks.

“Sadio is not injured any more, but is he 100 per-cent fit? That is different. If you see him in training, you say he is ready to go.”

Klopp was also asked about the ongoing contract stand-off with midfielder Emre Can, who has entered the final year of his contract and is reported to be preparing to leave Liverpool on a free transfer next summer.

Anfield chiefs have tried and failed to broker a fresh contract for their German midfielder, but Klopp as no concerns picking the player so long as he is focused on the Liverpool cause.

“There is nothing new on this,” he said of Can’s contract. “I have said a few times, it’s our job to make this club as exciting as possible. He is allowed to sign a contract in May.

“I have said many times that long as Emre doesn’t give me one sign his mind is somewhere else then I don’t have to talk about this. Everything is okay for my side on this.”

Defender Dejan Lovren and midfielder Gini Wijnaldum have a chance to be involved against West Ham despite injury concerns in recent days and Klopp also offered up positive news on long-term injury victim Adam Lallana, who is expected to be fit to return after the upcoming international break.

Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho will miss the trip to West Ham as he has not recovered from a thigh problem.
