If ever there was a situation where a team was crying out for a player to bolster the team and that player was available, this is it. He ain't a luxury player, he is the idea perfect addition for us. It's so glaringly obvious it's astounding.

If Klopp, actually, if John W. Henry, cannot see that by this point, well, we all may as well just pack it up right now

Talk about messing around while Rome burns, Chelsea will be after him after today, and Southampton would rather sell to them than us. The only thing in our favour is that VVD wants to come to us, but if we don't bid he'll be forced into a move to any team who's bid. Let's face it he's burnt his boats at Southampton.

Does anyone know why we haven't put a bid in for VvD yet?

Didn't we "confirm (tail between legs) we have ended any interest in the player."?  :P

We did. And then something about not approaching Soton' until they give us the go ahead.

      I'm baffled, stunned

Had to laugh at the Sunday mirror quoting a Southampton insider saying they were confident of keeping vvd and getting him back him into the team because of the world cup, well i assume they haven't seen Holland play or seen the qualification table

Mirror also reporting Chelsea are to make a bid in excess of £50 million this week. If true, anyone willing to bet against Southampton accepting the bid just to spite us? Another classic FSG F**k up in the making, this one.

Won't mean a jot if he doesn't want to play for them.

Also, the supposed ITK from the Saints forum (guy that called the transfer request and refusal to train) is claiming that there will be two maybe three bids for him this week, one possibly from a club abroad, if Liverpool happen to bid he said that Soton will refuse to sell to us.

Maybe that's why Sakho has been registered as part of our Premier League squad?

Id be interested legally  (within an employment specific) that if we offered more than the other bids and the player wanted to move to us still how that would stand up.

He wants to play for us yes but do you seriously think he'd turn down Chelsea if it got towards the end of the month and we weren't coming in for him?

Problem being Jon, we'd have to actually be willing to make a substantially higher bid. Now you know the chances of that happening.

      😂

All seriousness though mate just anything higher could they turn it down?
I'd bid whatever.. If they're selling him and it becomes a bidding war I can't see how they stop him.. If that's what he wants

As long as we bid something competitive I think it would end up in Virgil's lap, if he refused to go anywhere but LFC then Saints would likely have to relent, problem is, the club were far to quick to make that apology telling me that they were all too happy to just go ahead and "end all interest". You don't see Barca or PSG make no apologies do you? That's because they are run by ruthless football people. We are run by pompous buffoons who don't know the first thing about football. That's why we have Edwards in charge of transfers.

I honestly believe they have something on us and threatened to use it if we didn't make a public apology and end all interest. And if we renewal our interest and make the first approach, they would report us. What other logical reason could there be?

      Doubt it

If they had something they would just have sent it to the FA, and has us punished

Why hold it back? The Fa when they originally looked into it would have asked for everything, to hold something back just in case and then sell him to another club wouldn't happen.

They have nothing, just another example of amateur hour at Liverpool under fsg

There isn't a logical reason, the reason is our ownership is scared of it's own shadow. Slap on the fingers for Kenny over his Suarez support, apologize over tapping up Dempsey, now an apology over tapping up VVD. I've never seen a club be so quick to grovel as ours. Amazing when you think of all of the crap we've had to put up with over the years. You don't see Barca or Real or PSG or United or Chelsea operating this way.

We need to start acting link a big club if we want to claim to be one.

Hopefully now the Saints chain of command has been solidified, we can press on to get this one done sooner rather than later.

Still think if it happens that it will be right at the deadline or close to it.

Interesting thing is he is in the shop window...yet even with all the talk there have been no bids from Chelsea or City..you would have thought the minute he handed in his request Chelsea would have jumped all over it.

New owners (partners) are not likely going to be selling their best player to us to kick off their new era.

Not sure about that, remember when Kenny D came here in his second spell Torres was gone before kicking a ball for him. I can't see why it would be impossible. It depends on why they purchased Southampton. It all depends on how true it is that Les Reed retains the same power as she had with the previous owners.
