Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang posted a cryptic message to his six million followers on Instagram on Friday, ahead of Dortmund's Bundesliga clash with Freiburg.

The Gabon international is eligible to play for the German giants on Saturday, despite his future at the club hanging in the balance.

Arsenal have made one £44million bid for the Gabon international but the Bundesliga club are demanding £60million.

It is thought the Gunners will likely have to eclipse their record spend - £52million on Alexandre Lacazette - to land Aubameyang.

Aubameyang posted an image of himself in the Dortmund kit on Friday, alongside the caption: "Hate me or love me," a newspaper emoji, and a laughing face emoji.

It seems to be a message to his current fans, some of whom may be looking to jeer the forward if he features for the club on Saturday.

But Arsenal fans have jumped on the post, and many have responded.

One wrote: "Come to Arsenal," while another added: "We are waiting for you," and a third wrote: "Love you in an Arsenal shirt."

A fourth commenter attempted to interpret the message, writing: "It don't matter no more I'm going to London."

Arsene Wenger spoke about Arsenal's pursuit of the forward in his press conference on Friday, but was unable to provide an update.

"I cannot tell you more," said the Frenchman. "We've nothing to announce today and at the moment we stay where we are.

"We have added [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan, lost Alexis and our squad is stable. If anything else happens I'd say I don't know. It's still possible but we're far from being close."
