Manchester United legend David Beckham has said he still cannot believe Alexis Sanchez is an Old Trafford player.

Speaking to the Mirror at the launch of his new Miami MLS team, the former England captain said: “I still find it hard to believe it’s actually happened. It’s amazing.

“A player of his stature and calibre has obviously come from a big club like Arsenal and then to move to a massive club like Manchester United, that for me makes me proud to be a Manchester United player because we want great players and exciting players.

“Its great to see him wear a United shirt and I’m sure he’s going to be successful.”

The Chile star completed his move from Arsenal to Old Trafford last week after penning a four-and-a-half-year deal that is worth around £500,000 a week.

Sanchez has taken Beckham’s old number seven shirt following in the footsteps of Bryan Robson, Steve Coppell, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former England captain's ownership group unveiled Miami as the latest Major League Soccer expansion franchise on Monday.

It has taken four years for Beckham to finally push the deal over the line after taking up an option in his previous LA Galaxy contract before his retirement.
