Jose Mourinho insists there is no case to answer over Alexis Sanchez ’s missed drug test.

The Chile striker was absent when the testers arrived at Arsenal’s training ground last Monday as he was finalising his move to Manchester United.

It meant Sanchez fell foul of the Football Association’s “whereabouts” rule.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said the Gunners were to blame for any mix-up and Mourinho added: “I think Arsenal were very honest with the way they approached the situation.

“We all know we must tell the whereabouts of our players, where they are 24 hours a day, but I think everybody understands nobody knew where Sanchez was going to be, where he was going to train, and where he was to sleep.

“It was just a period of transfer.

“It’s easily understandable and it was no one’s mistake. It was just a consequence of the moment.”

United and Arsenal believe the circumstances of Sanchez being between clubs is the reason he missed the test.

The ex-Barcelona forward had an immediate impact in his United bow, with a man-of-the-match display as Mourinho’s men cruised past League Two Yeovil away.

Sanchez – who moved from Arsenal to United with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way – laid on his new team’s first two goals for Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera before being replaced in the 72nd minute by Jesse Lingard.

England international Lingard and his fellow substitute Romelu Lukaku wrapped up victory for United with goals in the final two minutes.

Asked for his thoughts on Sanchez’s instant impact, Mourinho said: “He was cheap, wasn’t he? A free transfer! For that price it’s fantastic.

“Everybody thinks the same thing in this country and everybody can agree he’s a fantastic player and that he’s a plus for the team that has him.

“Now we have a good group of attacking players.

“Lingard was on the bench in Yeovil, Lukaku was on the bench, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial were at home. We have a good group and this quality is a plus.

“With Alexis’ experience, he is another plus.”
