Martin Keown has explained why he has changed his mind after initially labelling Alexis Sanchez a "mercenary" for moving to Manchester United.
Sanchez looked set to sign for Manchester City, where he was due to link back up with Pep Guardiola this January.
But the Citizens were not prepared to meet his eye-watering wage demands, and Manchester United - in desperate need of some firepower - swooped.
Keown revealed his thoughts on the Chilean suddenly favouring a move to Old Trafford over Manchester City.
He told the Daily Mail: "Sanchez has got to be the biggest mercenary in football."
But it seems the former Gunners defender has now changed his mind on the issue, and revealed that in some ways he is pleased Sanchez did join Manchester United.
"I felt with City he seemed destined to go there, they were pursuing him for the last 18 months and then right at the death he goes to Manchester United," Keown told the BBC while providing commentary on the Red Devils' FA Cup clash with Yeovil.
"Of course it's a fantastic club, but the money they have offered him, it's a bit of devilment really.
"But fair play to them, because City are going to have all the best players aren't they, if he went there as well?
"So it makes for a better Premier League if he goes to United, but I thought surely City are the better team".
