Riyad Mahrez sparked transfer speculation when he was spotted leaving the Emirates after Arsenal's Carabao Cup win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Arsenal Fan TV uploaded footage - which you can see below - following the game, which showed the Leicester City midfielder in a car outside the ground.

Gunners supporters took to social media as the clip went viral to voice their excitement in possibly signing the French-born Algerian international.

But it seems the real reason Mahrez was in town had little to do with a potential move to Arsenal, which will come as some disappointment to fans.

According to Sky Sports, Mahrez was indeed in the capital for the game, but was there to see his good friend - and former team-mate - N'Golo Kante.

The Foxes playmaker is still very good mates with his fellow Frenchman, and allegedly met up with him after the match.

Arsenal recently completed the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was cup tied for Wednesday night's game, but in the stands to watch his new team-mates in action.

The Gunners also recently said goodbye to Alexis Sanchez, as part of the deal for the Armenian, and could be in the market for another midfielder.

Whether Mahrez is a player on Arsene Wenger's radar remains to be seen, but there is still plenty of time left in this current January transfer window for the deal to get over the line.
