Mauricio Pochettino has backed his Tottenham strike-force to fight fire with fire against Manchester United’s all-stars.

The teams meet at Wembley on Wednesday, with the visitors likely to be spearheaded by their new signing — Spurs' long-time north London derby foe Alexis Sanchez.

Harry Kane, however, goes into the contest hunting his 100th Premier League goal, while both Son Heung Min and fit-again Christian Eriksen are into double figures for the season.

Pochettino said: “We have good talent too around. Like Manchester United have around Lukaku and Ibrahimovic. We have good quality, too.”

Spurs, battling for a place in the top four that would ensure Champions League football again next season, have lost just two of their last 16 games in all competitions, stretching back to November 28.

Pochettino is hoping to complete the £22million capture of attacking midfielder Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain before Wednesday's 11pm deadline.

Tottenham are also in the market for any last-minute “opportunities” that may arise, similar to when they snapped up Fernando Llorente from Swansea last summer.

The Spurs boss cited the example of Son, bought from Bayer Leverkusen at the end of 2015's summer transfer window, as he maintained he is constantly having to wait until the Manchester clubs finish cherry-picking the A-listers.

He said: “They are in a different reality. We are always in the market in a different reality from this type of club, still.

“We are a club where we sign opportunities. Manchester United want Alexis and so they go for him. It’s like this. I don’t say that it’s good or it’s bad. I only say that we are different.

“Maybe one day we will arrive in the same reality.

“When we signed Son, it was at the end of the transfer [window]. We had tried from the beginning. But first of all he said no. Then, at the end, because he struggled to play and was upset with his manager, [Bayer Leverkusen] opened the door and we signed him.

“Then they signed Chicharito [from Manchester United], remember?

“Because it was an opportunity. Understand the difference.

“For us, last summer, Fernando Llorente was an opportunity at the last day of the transfer market.”
