Arsene Wenger signed Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona back in 2014.

He was delighted to have convinced the Chilean to leave the Camp Nou and join the cause at Arsenal, who were at the time competing for both the title and the Champions League.

Sanchez arrived in north London shortly after the World Cup, where he impressed on a global stage as Chile made it to the Round of 16 before being knocked out by Brazil.

Here is what Wenger had to say about the now 29-year-old - who is set to sign for Manchester United imminently - when he signed him for Arsenal for £35million just four years ago.

"As many people have seen during the World Cup this summer, Alexis is a fantastic footballer and we are delighted that he is joining us at Arsenal," said the Arsenal boss.

"Alexis will add power, creativity and much quality to our squad and we are all looking forward to him joining up with us in a few weeks.

"He has consistently produced top-quality performances at the highest level for a number of seasons now and we are all excited to see him integrate into the Arsenal squad.

"I'm sure all Arsenal supporters will join me in welcoming Alexis to our club."

Sanchez also had plenty to say about the Gunners upon putting pen to paper with the north London club.

"I'm so happy to be joining Arsenal, a club which has a great manager, a fantastic squad of players, huge support around the world and a great stadium in London," said Sanchez in 2014.
