Arsenal are still interested in West Brom’s Jonny Evans but do not want to pay anything like the £20m asking price, especially as he can go for just £3m in the summer if they are relegated.

It has become a one horse race for Evans as Manchester City are now looking at Atheltic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte.

But Arsenal might have to offload Olivier Giroud if they want to bring in Evans and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the end of the window.

Arsenal remain confident in the battle to sign Aubameyang - but fear it will go down to the wire.

Borussia Dortmund have told Arsenal they are ready to sell for £60m and have so far rejected two bids which have fallen short of their valuation.

Despite playing Aubameyang on Saturday, that is still just seen as a way of trying to put the pressure on Arsenal and also make it clear that he will stay until the summer unless a deal is agreed.

But Arsenal are still likely to thrash out a deal for the 28-year-old who is desperate to move to the Emirates and is ready to sign a three-and-a-half year deal worth £180,000-a-week.

Arsenal’s negotiations are ongoing but the uncertainty leaves Olivier Giroud in limbo with the club reluctant to let him leave until Aubameyang is in the bag.

Borussia Dortmund had been keen on Giroud but the France striker has got some doubts even though he wants more regular game time ahead of the World Cup.

Chelsea have been interested in Giroud but seem to have made Roma’s Edin Dzeko their No1 target.
