Arsene Wenger has admitted Arsenal are not close to signing striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners are chasing the Gabon striker as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez who joined Manchester United on Monday night.

But the Frenchman revealed the deal is not imminent.

Wenger said: "Confident or not confident, I don’t know.

“We are not close to a deal for Aubameyang with Dortmund or anybody else.

“He is one of our possible movements but there are others."

Aubameyang could link up with former Dormund teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan after the Armenian completed his switch from United.

And the deal could also see Olivier Giroud head in the opposite direction and join the Bundesliga club.
