Claude Puel reckons £100m-rated Riyad Mahrez is staying at Leicester.

Mahrez, 26, has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Arsenal.

The Reds are ready to splash the cash after selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £142m.

But City chief Puel, whose side host Watford today, is confident the Algerian star will remain at the King Power.

“He's enjoying playing for Leicester with his team-mates,” said the Frenchman, who slapped the £100m price tag on Mahrez earlier this week.

“This is the most important thing - we have this good feeling that the player wants to stay with us.

“It is important for us to keep a good feeling with our player.”

Another key to Leicester's hopes is the determination of chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

“My boss - the owner - will decide,” added Puel.

Mahrez was skipper for the FA Cup third round replay against Fleetwood and Puel is delighted with his positive attitude.

“You can see he's enjoying it. He was a good captain,” he said.

Puel wants £25m man Kelechi Iheanacho to repeat the headlines his historic VAR goal created in the Premier League after his double sank Fleetwood in the FA Cup.

“I hope it gives him some consistency and confidence,” added Puel.

But Leicester are set to sell at least one forward this month.

Islam Slimani has been linked with Besiktas to replace £27m Everton signing Cenk Tosun.

“We have six strikers. It will be important in this transfer window to find a good balance,” said Puel.
