Manchester United have already landed their most significant signing of the window.

Bringing Alexis Sanchez to Old Trafford was a statement of intent, if not this season, then for next season despite City's gap at the top.

Jose Mourinho will be keen to be kept in the loop concerning any bargains that develop in the final hours though.

Some squad players and youngsters could also be made available.

Here's a rundown of how United's deadline day could unfold:

Possible outs

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Mourinho in the Swede: "Zlatan is in the last year of contract. If - I'm saying if, if, if - I repeat he's said nothing about it to me.

"But if, if, if that is true and Zlatan wants a future in another club in another country then I give to help and create conditions for that to happen to not make his life difficult."

A move to Los Angeles with the Galaxy could appeal at this stage of his career, where a league such as MLS will be certainly managable.

MLS clubs can sign players for a few months yet, so there is no urgency to settle the Swede's future just yet.

Marouane Fellaini

No news yet on a contract extension and just six months away from leaving on a free. Still time yet for Mourinho to convince the big Belgian to commit his future to Old Trafford.

Ander Herrera and Juan Mata

The club have an option to extend both of their deals until 2019, yet there will be an urgency to convince them that by triggering that option, their futures are best served in Manchester.

Consistent involvement in the first team and new deals for the long-term will be priorities, though Valencia have been recently linked to Mata, while Herrera has been linked to Barcelona in the past.

Matteo Darmian

Another poor display in the FA Cup vs Yeovil means a loan back to Serie A, in order to regain his confidence, could serve all parties well.

Youngsters sent out on loan

Devonte Redmond, Joe Riley and Ethan Hamilton have all flourished at Under-23 level and, given the right opportunity, would benefit from a loan away.

Sam Johnstone

The Villa goalkeeper has impressed on loan and Steve Bruce wants to keep the player permanently, though a recall option from United's perspective could make more sense with West Brom willing to pay more.
