The 6 moments that defined the Vikings’ shocking win over the Saints

What an incredible ride that game was.

The New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings played a classic NFC Divisional Round game that will be talked about until the end of time.

After falling behind 17-0, the Saints pushed hard in the second half to make a comeback. While it appeared they had the game won after a late field goal, the Vikings and Stefon Diggs had other plans.

Here are the biggest moments from the best Divisional Round game of all-time.

The Saints’ blocked punt in the fourth quarter

The Saints needed a big play against the Vikings, and they got the one they needed late in the fourth quarter that would eventually lead them to an NFC Championship berth.

George Johnson and Taysom Hill (a quarterback!) got pressure on Ryan Quigley, with Johnson getting a hand on the football for the block with five and a half minutes left in the game:

Now, the Saints were in business.

Alvin Kamara’s incredible catch

The blcok allowed the Saints to start from Minnesota’s 40-yard line. It took them just four plays to get in the end zone, with Alvin Kamara making this spectacular catch over Eric Kendricks to put the Saints up 21-20 with three minutes to go:

The Vikings would get the ball back, and Adam Thielen what might have been the catch of the postseason.

Adam Thielen’s catch, while smothered by Marshon Lattimore

Looking to get into field goal range, Case Keenum threw one up to Thielen, who was draped by Marshon Lattimore (he was called for BOTH defensive holding and pass interference!):

Thielen’s catch got the Vikings up to the Saints’ 40-yard line, setting them up for more points.

Kai Forbath’s 53-yard field goal

Kai Forbath then knocked in a 53-yard field goal to put the Vikings up 23-21 with 1:34 left in the game:

The Saints would give it one last shot after losing the lead. Faced with a fourth down, Drew Brees found Willie Snead on the left side of the field to keep the game alive and put them on the Vikings’ 33-yard line.

Wil Lutz’s seemingly game-winning kick

Another pass to Michael Thomas put the Saints at the Vikings’ 24-yard line with 33 seconds on the clock. With 29 seconds, Wil Lutz attempted a 43-yard field goal, and split the uprights to give the Saints a 24-23 lead:

The Vikings would start with the ball at the 25-yard line after the Saints’ kickoff. A completion to Stefon Diggs got the Vikings to the 39-yard line, where they called a timeout with 18 seconds left.

Stefon Diggs’ improbable touchdown reception

After a pair of incompletions, the Vikings had just 10 seconds in the game. Case Keenum then found Stefon Diggs for the game-winning touchdown to send the Vikings to the NFC Championship game against the Eagles:

That’s going to be an NFC Divisional Round game that will be talked about for the rest of time.

The Vikings are one win away from breaking a Super Bowl curse
