Adam Humphries has been flying under the radar a bit, putting up a 55-622-2 stat line for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. He’s firmly entrenched as the No. 3 receiver behind Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson, but Humphries keeps making plays and getting a fair amount of target share.
Over the past two weeks, Humphries has 12 catches for 138 yards, clearly taking advantage of the defensive attention Evans and Jackson are getting. Despite not scoring a touchdown this season, he’s emerged as a quality underneath weapon for Jameis Winston.
Fantasy impact: Humphries is hard to forecast from week to week, playing a supporting role in an offense that wants to run the ball and is getting Doug Martin back. It’s unlikely that the Bucs’ passing game will sustain three fantasy-relevant receivers all year.
With all that said, bye weeks and injuries lead to desperate fantasy owners, so if you have to make a dart throw, Humphries is in a good spot against the New England Patriots, whose defense is giving up the most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Thursday night’s contest has massive shootout potential with Winston and Tom Brady trading haymakers, so Humphries should at least be considered in your WR4/flex spot.
Recommendation: Start if you’re desperate
