Fantasy football Week 12: Cameron Brate, start or sit?

Brate has disappeared in the offense with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. We break down the fantasy implications.

NFL: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Miami Dolphins Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

While Cameron Brate has never been the most prolific tight in fantasy football, he’s always been useful as a trusted red zone weapon for Jamies Winston. Brate scored eight touchdowns last season and was on a good pace again this year, with four scores in the first five games.

Then Winston got hurt and everything changed. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season circling the drain, Ryan Fitzpatrick came in a few weeks ago for Wintson, who’s out indefinitely with a shoulder injury. Since then, Brate’s usage has evaporated — over the past three games, he has just three catches for a combined 31 yards.

Fantasy impact: It’s probably not a coincidence that Brate disappeared when Fitzpatrick replaced Winston — they simply don’t have the same chemistry together. That makes Brate almost a complete non-factor in fantasy, even with the thin talent pool at tight end. The Atlanta Falcons aren’t a friendly matchup this week, giving up the 10th-fewest fantasy points to tight ends. Brate is off the streaming radar until further notice.

Recommendation: Sit
