Tevin Coleman might not be the starting running back, but he has a valuable spot as a secret weapon for the Atlanta Falcons, and can fill in as the lead back whenever needed. That was the case when Devonta Freeman went down with a concussion in Week 10 and missed the two games, making Coleman the main workhorse.
Over those three games filling in for Freeman, Coleman had 59 carries for 223 yards and four touchdowns, scoring at least once in every game. He has seven scores on the season, which is close to the same pace as 2016 when he had 11 touchdowns.
Fantasy impact: Freeman is set to return from his concussion this week, relegating Coleman back to change-of-pace duty. His scoring ability makes him an intriguing flex play in deeper leagues, but the Falcons’ run game could struggle against the Minnesota Vikings, who are giving up the second-fewest fantasy points to running backs. With Freeman back, Coleman no longer needs to be in starting lineups at the moment.
