Times have been very rough for Arsenal of late, winless in their last five all-competitions matches coming into Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace. Now watching their top-four aspirations slip rapidly away, the Gunners need to start mounting wins fast if they’re going to stay in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

Arsneal’s stretch of futility is one that includes the three-match suspension Arsene Wenger served for his controversial accusation that referee Mike Dean is biased against his club. Wenger returns to the touchline in this match, having watched from the stands as the Gunners lost two of three matches, getting outscored 6-3 buy Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth in the process. Not exactly a butchers’ row of opponents, and even their match against Chelsea was marred by neither team really seeming to want to play in the 0-0 draw.

While the Gunners could get a spark from Wenger’s return, a hungry Crystal Palace side could use the relative chaos to strike, hoping to take points off Arsenal while they’re reeling. Palace haven’t won a game at Arsenal’s home ground since 1994, though, and have only earned one point at the Emirates Stadium since it opened in 2006. They’ve been a tough and opportunistic opponent for anyone to face of late, though, and the Gunners will have to step up quite a bit from where they’ve been of late to make sure they take all three much-needed points in this match.
