Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is convinced Alexis Sanchez remains “100 per cent” committed to the club after missing out on a move to Manchester City.

Sanchez’s hopes of an Arsenal escape route before his contract expires next summer were briefly raised in the final hours of the transfer window when City submitted a £60million bid for his services.

The Gunners intimated that they would agree to sell Sanchez if they could find a world-class replacement but saw a £92m move for Thomas Lemar fall apart when the Monaco winger rejected the move.

Arsenal had always been convinced that if Sanchez were to remain with them after the transfer window then he would once more apply himself with the purpose that made him so beloved at the Emirates prior to the summer’s contract stand-off.

And Wenger, who insisted there was some way to go before a deal could have been struck between Arsenal and City, expects exactly that from his star forward.

Wenger told beIN Sports that Sanchez would be “100 per cent [committed]. I have no doubt about that.”

He added: “Look, your interest is always to perform.

“[The transfer] was not very close and it's very difficult for me to speak about that because I want the player now to focus on his career, on his season and on Arsenal Football club.

“I believe as well I spoke to you before about integrity and values and I will think first make sure my commitment is at the level expected from the people who pay me and have confidence in me.

“I think on the player’s side it is exactly the same.”
