Andreas Christensen says Chelsea must 'be clever' against Tottenham

Andreas Christensen says Chelsea must "fight" and be "clever" if the champions want to beat rivals Tottenham at Wembley this weekend.

The 21-year-old was handed his chance to impress Antonio Conte, albeit in difficult circumstances, on Saturday after the Italian was forced into an early change against Burnley following Gary Cahill's red card at Stamford Bridge.

Christensen replaced winger Jeremie Boga to make his first appearance for Chelsea since the final day of the 2014-15 campaign as he spent the last two seasons on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach.

With Cahill missing for Chelsea's next three games through suspension, Christensen is expected to play in the captain's absence starting with an away trip to take on Spurs at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the Blues suffering a 3-2 loss against Burnley in their opening match of the new campaign - a game in which Cesc Fabregas was also sent off in - Christensen remains confident Conte's side can pull off a result against Tottenham.

He told Chelsea's official website: "On the pitch you don’t really think about it [Cahill's red card]. You just get on with it and keep battling back, like we did in the second half.

"I think everyone knows what happened. We have to pick ourselves up and look forward to the next game.

"We could have taken something from this match. When we got the first goal, the belief grew and you could feel it in the stadium as well. The noise and everything just went to another level and we could have got something."

Indeed, Chelsea did come close to taking at least a point from their clash against Burnley after second-half goals from Alvaro Morata and David Luiz threatened to complete a remarkable turnaround from the nine-man hosts.

And Christensen added: "We’re proud of our second half, we fought well and we know we had made it difficult for ourselves in the first half. I think everyone is quite clear what happened and now we are just looking forward.

"We have to fight the same way. Be clever, play our type of football again and I’m sure everybody is looking forward to Tottenham next week."
