Arsene Wenger insists he is hungrier than ever to win the title after Arsenal's lengthy wait for the Premier League crown.
The Gunners boss has not lifted the Premier League since 2004, though three FA Cups in the past four seasons has kept the Emirates’ trophy cabinet well stocked.
But it has not been enough either for Wenger or Arsenal supporters, who have grown increasingly frustrated at the failure to mount consistent title challenges at the top of the Premier League.
Speaking at a frosty Annual General Meeting on Thursday, Wenger - who had faced mounting protests against his reign in the early months of 2017 - insisted his desire to take Arsenal to glory was greater than ever before.
Expanding on those comments, he admitted that he still felt the need to prove himself to his critics and would remain a competitor until the end of his career.
Wenger said: "I was always hungry, but I’m hungrier than ever because the demands are higher, because I didn’t win the Premier League for a long time and because I want to do that before you get me out of here!
"I always have something to prove, if I play with you now we go out there and play four against four I will see that I will try to win, we can play one against one if you want.
"I think I’m born for competition, I don’t know why and what happened, but it’s like that no matter what I do and that’s it.
"The need is the desire to compete, that’s my real need. It’s never been financial. If it was only financial I would not be here."
