Mesut Ozil has been told to snub interest from Manchester United at the end of the season.

The Arsenal midfielder’s contract expires next summer and has yet to agree new terms with the north London club.

Rumours have also been circulating linking him to Old Trafford, a move which would see him form a reunion with former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

But ex-Germany striker Karl-Heinz Riedel believes Ozil should quit Arsenal in favour of a return to the Bundesliga.

“Ozil going back to Germany? Who knows,” Riedle told Omnisport. “There’s a rumour that he goes to Manchester United. He shouldn’t do it.

“Ozil is a quality player. If you see his skills, it’s just amazing what he can do on the pitch. We would be very happy if he comes back to a club in Germany, for sure. But I’m not his agent so I don’t know where he ends up”

Riedel, who spent two years at Anfield and made 60 Premier League appearances, doesn’t hold out much hope for the Arsenal playmaker as German clubs cannot compete financially with their Premier League rivals.

He continued: “Best option is, from my point, if he would come to the Bundesliga. It’s a really good option because we get another national player back in our league.

“But if he is looking only for the money, then it would be very difficult to find the same kind of money in the Germany league than he can find in the Premier League.”

Ozil and his Arsenal team-mates head to Vicarage Road on Saturday in the late Premier League kick-off against Watford.
