Arsenal youngster Stephy Mavididi joins Charlton Athletic on loan

Mavididi will spend the rest of the 2017-18 season at The Valley

Arsenal youngster Stephy Mavididi has joined Charlton on loan until the end of the season.

The England youth international returns to The Valley after a short spell 12 months ago, in which he made five appearances.

Mavididi spent the first half of the season at Championship outfit Preston North End, where he made 11 appearances, but has now dropped down to League One for the remainder of the campaign.

"I’m looking forward to coming back and enjoying my football again," Mavididi told the club's official website.

"I want to pick up where I left off at Charlton and help the club to achieve promotion.

"I really enjoyed my time here last season and, for any young player moving club, it is always easier when you go somewhere that you know people and I hope that I can settle back in straight away."

Charlton manager Karl Robinson added: “I am really looking forward to working with Stephy again. He is such a talented player and we only got to see a glimpse of what he could do last time he was here.

“I’ve watched him a lot since he’s come back from injury and he is a phenomenal talent. I don’t think it is any secret that we wanted to bring him in over the summer.

“The fans will have seen how quick, powerful and skilful he is from his first spell with us. He is a Championship quality player already and he comes to Charlton now with a point to prove.”
