Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Greek centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos is set to join the club in January and will be loaned out to gain first-team experience.

PAS Giannina’s Mavropanos is expected to conclude a deal to move to the Gunners in the coming days, when he will travel to London to undergo a medical and agree personal terms.

The 20-year-old will then be loaned out, with Standard Sport reporting today that Bundesliga side Werder Bremen are expected to take the Greek youth international for the second half of the season.

Wenger confirmed that to be the case after Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea, where he said: “He’s not ready to play for us.

“We’ll give him out on loan.”

Mavropanos, who is expected to cost Arsenal around £2.2 million, has made 13 appearances for PAS Giannina in the Greek Super League this season, helping the club to a mid-table berth.
